Call Centre
The lovelife call centre was established in September 2000 as an innovative service strategy to provide adolescents with interactive information, counselling and referral service in a quick, anonymous and confidential way through its toll-free youth line (0800 121 900). The call centre serves as a critical sexuality and reproductive health service component within the loveLife campaign, allowing for interaction between the youth caller and service provider without the face-to-face consultation that young people frequently quote as a barrier to accessing the services. It is operated by a team of 40 young trained counsellors and lay counsellors, and is functional for a total of 70 hours a week, both weekdays (09h00 – 21h00) and weekends (12h00 – 17h00).
A dedicated toll-free parent line (0800 121 100) was launched in 2001, to equip parents with information and guidance on talking to their children about sex.
Beyond offering a sexuality and reproductive health service to young people, the call centre analyses the nature of calls and demographics, highlights the trends, identifies key challenges, serves as a window into the sexual health needs of young people and identifies research topics. |
