loveLife recognises the significant role that parents and grandparents play in influencing the lives of young people. There is evidence that open communication about sex and sexuality between parent and child significantly reduces risk behaviour.
loveLife also recognises that some young people have lost parents due to HIV and to other social problems. These young people have limited opportunities and are vulnerable to various forms of abuse and are possibly most at risk of contracting HIV because of the absence of parents. Families and communities also play a major role in guiding young people and protect them from HIV. The Family Programmes are designed to facilitate communication between parents and children; provide a platform for parents’ involvement in the campaign; strengthen families and build strong community networks of support care and HIV prevention.
