Television

Three of every four households in South Africa have access to television – making it a powerful medium to engage with loveLife’s primary audience of youth aged 12 to 19. TV also allows loveLife to reach a secondary audience of parents and decision-makers who need to better understand the factors that make young people tolerant of risk and therefore vulnerable to infection with HIV in our collective fight against the epidemic.

loveLife - make your move

loveLife has an operating partnership with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), which includes the flighting of loveLife’s various television series and Public Service Announcements (PSAs) at various stages in the loveLife campaign. Aired primarily on SABC 1 - the national broadcaster’s premier youth platform – these programme offerings allow loveLife to access millions of young people and connect them to services, programmes and other media products all designed to help them navigate daily challenges so they can take charge of their lives.

I am Mzansi

I Am Mzansi is a series of seven powerful documentaries, conceived and executed by young people themselves. Launched as part of SABC’s special Youth Month programming in 2011, the series was funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund (NLDTF) and produced by Born Free Media on behalf of loveLife in its efforts to connect prevention with the social determinants of HIV. The series puts the spotlight on youth issues through the eyes of young people to add to the national debate on why youth remain tolerant of risk and ground prevention in the contexts in which young people grow up and attempt to forge an identity for themselves in contemporary South Africa.

Make Your Move

Make Your Move is a youth reality series that follows13 young South Africans as they go on a journey of self-discovery to secure brighter futures. Billed as transformational TV, the series showcases young people using simple yet effective tools to change their circumstances – by themselves! Make Your Move offers a gritty yet inspiring reality check for young South Africans who feel immobilised by their circumstances –from not having an ID book to dropping out of school to have a baby – and reveals that steps can be taken to steer the course of their futures. It’s about taking action rather than giving into the factors that make youth susceptible to infection with HIV in communities across the country.

Public Service Announcements

With the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), loveLife regularly flights Public Service Announcements (PSAs) on the national broadcaster’s channels to unpack key aspects of its media campaigns, publicise its various programmes and connect viewers with loveLife’s dedicated toll-free helplines for support, counselling and more information about the organisation and its programmes.
